Snowy Day in Asheville

Remnants from the childrens' crafting on the kitchen table.

I moved my mat cutter into the living room so I could work on cutting Soulcollage cards and keep an eye on the kids at the same time.  I have been working on these cards for most of the day and have cut 5 packs of 10 cards per pack thus far.  I sell these cards along with other Soulcollage supplies in my shop, Frivoli-tea.

Not Made in China

Here are some ornaments that I have made over the past couple of days.  (It takes time for glue to dry, you know!)  I used scraps left over from my Carol Owen style shrine making, covered these scraps of foam core with chiri paper, and then decorated them.  Here is the end result.

Christmas Goodies from Target

I know that this blog is supposed to feature my shop, Frivoli-tea.  But I often find interesting things at home that I would like to share.  I was at Target the other day and found some lovely Christmas goodies.  I found a wonderful red, fleece-lined robe that I plan to wear on Christmas morning.  It is in the wash right now so I don't have a photo to share.  But here above you can see these cute holiday slippers.  I plan to go back after the holidays and purchase a similar pair of slippers that are blue and white and feature snowflakes.

I like to shop at small, independant stores.  I also purchase many local, handmade items.    But sometimes I just need to make a Target run.  Unfortunately, many of their items are made overseas.  But I do appreciate the store's attempt to carry well-designed stock.

Christmas Collages

I was impressed by these images on Jenny Doh's blog, so I decided to try some for myself.  Above is what I came up with.

Thanksgiving Preparations

I am spending today on preparations for tomorrow:  starting food, straightening the house, and changing sheets for overnight guests.  I hope that you all have a fabulous day tomorrow with your special people.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Icicles - coool

Today I was standing in line at the grocery store - buying a few things for our Thanksgiving meal.  To kill time while waiting, I thumbed through Martha Stewart Living.  I ran across a feature about collecting icicle ornaments.  Well, this intrigued me because I had some second-hand icicle ornaments for sale in my shop.  Under the influence of Martha Stewart I decided that these ornaments are too cool to sell, so I went by the shop and picked them up to keep for myself.  I am curious to know what they are made of.  I hit one with a hammer and it split in half.  The ornament is solid and has a grey core.  What do you think?  Brittle old grey plastic?  What else could it be?  Any ideas?  In any case I will give them a try on my Christmas tree to see how they look.

Asheville Encaustic Artists

I am thinking of adding encaustic supplies to my shop, Frivoli-tea.  So recently I have been in touch with a number of local encaustic artists to get their advice.  It turns out that Asheville is home to numerous talented encaustic artists.  To name just a few, we have: Mary Farmer, Celia Gray, Nicole McConville, Ginger Hueber, and Tif McDonald.  The beautiful dreamy image above was done by Tif.

A Tea C's

My blog friend, Angela, over at Tea With Friends was my swap partner for an A Tea C swap. She sent me her beautiful cards (above) along with some gold dresdens.  What a special gift!  Angela coined the concept of A Tea C's a while back, playing off the "ATC" (artist trading cards) idea.  I think that is such a clever type of artwork for tea lovers to exchange.
