A Hint of Sadness

I am thinking that a hint of sadness always comes with the closing of a seasonal door, the end of a cycle.  What does this sadness mean and why does it come to us at these thresholds?  Even if you have tried your hardest to celebrate a simple, joyful Christmas, you are probably experiencing a letdown in this post-Christmas period of time.   It seems to me that this feeling of sadness (these post-holiday blues) is  an invitation to reflection, an invitation to quiet meditation.   This sadness signals the opening of a period in which we can review what has been and plan for what will come, quietly and gently.

Some people experience more than a hint of sadness at this time of year.  For these folks I recommend reading the advice posted by reputable online sources as this one:  http://missourifamilies.org/features/healtharticles/health7.htm

  1. I agree with you about the post-holiday letdown ... but that said, I very much enjoy looking ahead to the new year! And I like what you so aptly called the "invitation to reflection." New Year's, and the whole winter, really, is such a great time for that!
